Refund & Cancellation Policy
Effective Date: May 1, 2026

Inquiry vs. Reservation
Submitting a form through this website does not reserve a trip.
A reservation is confirmed only after Alaska Rural Transit reviews the request, accepts the trip, and receives the required deposit or prepayment.

Deposits
Standard reservations require a 50% deposit to confirm the trip.
The deposit holds vehicle availability, driver time, planning time, and the scheduled travel window.
Same-day trips and special-event dates require full prepayment to confirm the trip. For those reservations, the full prepayment serves as the deposit.
Special-event dates may include, but are not limited to, Salmonfest, Alaska State Fair, Girdwood Forest Fair, and other high-demand travel dates identified during the quote or reservation process.

Payment Terms
Rates shown are standard published fares.
Card payments are accepted at the standard published fare.
A 5% cash discount is available when the remaining balance is paid by cash or another approved non-card payment method.
The 5% cash discount applies only to eligible non-card payments. It does not apply to card payments, deposits paid by card, or payments already processed by card.

Cancellations More Than 72 Hours Before Pickup
For standard reservations, cancellations made more than 72 hours before the scheduled pickup time may be eligible for one reschedule, subject to availability.
Approved refunds are issued at Alaska Rural Transit’s discretion, subject to this policy and the circumstances of the trip.

Cancellations Within 72 Hours
Deposits are non-refundable for cancellations made within 72 hours of the scheduled pickup time.

No-Call / No-Show
A no-call / no-show results in forfeiture of the deposit.
The customer remains responsible for the remaining balance of the trip. Alaska Rural Transit may invoice the customer for the remaining balance. If the customer has separately authorized a payment method for the remaining balance, Alaska Rural Transit may charge that authorized payment method as permitted by law, card network rules, and processor requirements.

Same-Day Trips and Special-Event Dates
Same-day trips and special-event date reservations require full prepayment to confirm.
Full prepayment for same-day trips and special-event dates is non-refundable once the reservation is confirmed, unless Alaska Rural Transit cancels the trip and cannot provide the agreed transportation.
Customer-Caused Delays or Changes
Customer-caused delays, missed pickup times, route changes, additional stops, passenger count changes, excess luggage, or material changes to the original request may require a revised quote.
Alaska Rural Transit may decline or modify service if the requested change cannot be safely or reasonably completed.

Weather, Road, Safety, and Operational Conditions
Alaska travel can be affected by weather, road conditions, closures, traffic, vehicle issues, safety concerns, and events outside Alaska Rural Transit’s control.
When necessary, Alaska Rural Transit may delay, reroute, reschedule, or cancel service for safety or operational reasons.
If Alaska Rural Transit cancels a confirmed trip and cannot provide the agreed transportation, the customer will receive a refund of amounts paid for that trip.

Refund Method
Approved refunds for card payments are returned to the original card when possible.
Alaska Rural Transit does not issue cash refunds for card payments.
Refund timing depends on the payment processor and card issuer.
